Lucasville: The Untold Story of a Prison Uprising depicts the events surounding the 1993 prision uprising at the Southern Ohio Correntional Facility. Get into the mind of the prisoners, state negotiators, and families who all had a role and unique perspective in the standoff. Based on court testimony and negotiation tapes, the play by Staughton Lynd and Gary Anderson, with assistance from Christopher Fidram, is structured around the book of the same name by Lynd. 1 guard, Robert Vallandingham, and 9 inmates died in April 1993 at the prison in Lucasville, OH. Five men are on Death Row and many more are serving additional sentences. The play does not shy away from asking you to consider your stand on the death penalty.

The play has been presented around the state of Ohio in 2007 and in a series of workshop and staged performances in April 2008. It commemorated the 15th anniversary of the deadly riots with performances in Youngstown, Cleveland and Cincinnati. In August 2008, it was performed as an official selection of the New York City Fringe Festival, the largest arts festival and host of original theatre in the country. It will premier on the west coast the last weekend of September 2008. Click here for more information on that production in Oakland, CA and plans for other tours.
